Looking forward – by Rachel

06 April 2007

Reflecting back, our week in Birmingham was very significant – strong writers, an excellent range of plays, great performers and real enthusiasm from staff at The REP. The week finished off with the world premiere of Shao Wen’s monologue, Speaking To Him, which was performed in English by Jennifer Lim and directed by Natasha.

Again, strong representation from the local Chinese community and we hope to consolidate links as we start to plan the next phase of 100 Words in Birmingham.  Our minds are now turning to our forthcoming visit to Guangzhou and Shanghai. We fly via Hong Kong and after a brief look round the Hong Kong Academy of Performing Arts, we’ll be catching a train to Guangzhou. We’re working closely with the British Council offices in both Guangzhou and Shanghai, and hope to visit some schools while we’re there as well as meet various people involved in Chinese theatre.  As ever, we’ll be packing a lot into the schedule.
