100 Words aims to:
Enable young people to explore their own creativity and learn new skills through participation and dialogue with their peers;
Build greater awareness and understanding of cultural similarity and difference through language;
Maximise technological possibilities by creating a virtual community to encourage the sharing of work and exchange of ideas;
Facilitate cultural engagement between organisations, cities and regions in China and the UK initially;
Link into the cultural and edu cat ional programmes celebrating the Olympic and Paralympic Games from Beijing 2008 to London 2012, and contribute to their legacies.

100 Words is a project for young people, tapping into their creativity and creating global connections.
Inspired by preparations for the Beijing Olympics (where people are being encouraged to learn '100 sentences of a foreign language'), 100 Words will build over the next five years towards London 2012, generating thousands of plays, films, musicals and operas - each written using just 100 words.
